Unit 8 A green world Reading (II) I. Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. use new words and phrases correctly; 2. retell the text in their own words; 3. realize the importance of protecting the environment. II. Teaching contents 1. New words and phrases: plastic, separate, recycling, allow, punish, fine, limit, depend, rich, resource, wisely, produce, difference, cut down, depend on/upon, keep it that way, cost little, run out, make a difference 2. New structures: It is a country with high mountains and clean blue lakes. Things like glass, plastic and paper are separated into different groups and then recycled. We depend on its rich resources to live. It is important for us to protect it wisely. Remember that everyone can do something to make a difference. III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty 1. Use the new words and phrases correctly. 2. Further understand the article. IV. Teaching procedures Step 1 Lead-in Let’s make a difference Present pictures of Switzerland and some polluted places in our country. Call on the students to do something to make a difference. 2. Do’s and don’ts T: Switzerland is a beautiful country with high mountains and clean blue lakes. It has rich resources. Why it is so beautiful? 【设计意图:通过图片导入主题,提高学生的环保热情,并复习瑞士的环保做法。】 Step 2 Presentation 1. Group work Separate the students into three groups (the Recycling Group , the Law Group and the New Energy Group) to finish three tasks and learn the new language points at the same time. Task 1 The Recycling Group: (1) What can be recycled? What should be done first before recycling? (2) How do Swiss recycle old clothes? All the students: (1) How can we separate things? (2) What can be recycled? (3) What can’t be recycled? Language focus: 被动语态:be + past participle Some ..., some ..., and others .... Task 2 The law group: Complete a conversation about how to protect the environment. All the students: Discussion: (1) What’s the purpose of the laws, for punishment or prevention? (2) What can be done to let more people know and follow the law rules? Language focus: Allow Punish/Fine Task 3 Energy group: T: Can you say something about protecting nature according to the key words and phrases? depend on, so, luckily, because, moreover All the students: Discussion: How can we protect nature wisely? Retell Martina’s article 2. Finish a letter from Kitty’s friend 【设计意图:通过写信复述的形式达到语言输出的目的。】 Step 4 Conclusion T: We have many ways to keep out earth green and clean. Everyone can do something to make a difference. ways + everyone = green world V. Homework 1. Find more ways to protect nature and save energy by referring to books and Internet. 2.
